A key file, which is a special file stored on the local computer, corresponds to the purchased license or activated demo period for Dr.Web Mail Security Suite. The file regulates product usage rights in accordance with the purchased license or activated demo period.
The key file has .key extension and is valid if satisfies the following criteria:
•License or demo period is not expired.
•Demo period or license applies to all anti-virus components required by the product.
•Integrity of the key file is not violated.
If any of the conditions are violated, the license key file becomes invalid.

|
During Dr.Web Mail Security Suite operation, the key file must be located in the default directory /etc/opt/drweb.com for GNU/Linux or /usr/local/etc/drweb.com for FreeBSD under the name drweb32.key.
Components of Dr.Web Mail Security Suite regularly check whether the key file is available and valid. The key file is digitally signed to prevent its editing. So, the edited key file becomes invalid. It is not recommended to open your key file in text editors in order to avoid its accidental corruption.
If no valid key file (license or demo) is found, or if the license is expired, operation of the anti-virus components is blocked until a valid key file is installed.
|
It is recommended that you keep the license key file until it expires. In this case, there is no need to register the serial number again upon reinstalling Dr.Web Mail Security Suite or installing it on another server, and you can use the license key file obtained during the initial registration process.

|
Dr.Web key files are usually packed in a .zip archive if sent via email. The archive with a key file to activate Dr.Web Mail Security Suite is usually named agent.zip. If there are several archives in the email message, you should use only agent.zip. Before installing the key file, you must unpack the archive using any suitable tool and extract the key file to any available directory (for example, to your home directory or to a USB flash drive).
